Welcome to the Gifts in Wills Spring Newsletter 2026
In this landmark year, as we celebrate the 575th Anniversary of the University, we are looking both to our past and to the opportunities ahead, and the future impact we can make together.
Through gifts in Wills, generations before us have helped shape who we are today. Their support has protected our heritage, pioneered solutions that have made the world healthier and fairer, and opened doors for others to achieve their dream of a Glasgow education.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to everyone who has already included the University of Glasgow in their Will, and to those who may be considering doing so. Your support will help ensure a lasting impact for generations to come. Gifts in Wills, whether large or small, play a meaningful role in shaping the future of teaching and research, strengthening our University community, and supporting opportunities that might otherwise not be possible.
We hope you enjoy reading about the impact of this work and the special anniversary activities featured in this spring edition of our Gifts in Wills newsletter.
If you would like to find out more, we would love to hear from you. Please contact us by email at legacies@gla.systa-s.com or get in touch by telephone on + 44(0) 141 330 6886.

Many of our alumni and friends who generously support the University choose to make a lasting and meaningful contribution through a gift in their Will.
Details for your Will and our legacy promises to you
Details for your Will
All gifts in Wills to the University of Glasgow are very much appreciated and are looked after with sensitivity and understanding. We will use your gift carefully and cost-effectively so that it has the greatest impact for the purposes you intended. You can also choose to specify how your gift should be used, if you wish.
Should you need them, our charity details for a Will are:
‘University of Glasgow, charity number SC004401, Development & Alumni, External Relations, University of Glasgow, Glasgow G12 8QQ’
If you live in the USA you may wish to leave your gift directly to the University if you have specified use for a specific purpose, or you can make your gift to the American Alumni of Glasgow University (AAGU), a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Gifts in Wills are 100% deductible from your taxable estate.
If you live in Canada, the gift in your Will should be directed to the ‘University of Glasgow,’ which has Prescribed Status under the Canadian Income Tax Act to receive tax relief under the Canadian tax structure.
If your current Will mentions the University Court or the University of Glasgow Trust (SC008303), there is no need to change it – it will still reach us without problem.
Our Way to say Thanks
Our 1451 Society recognises the special commitment of alumni and friends who have chosen to support the University through a planned gift in their Will. Should you wish to be part of the Society we would be delighted for you to join us at our special events and will ensure you are kept in touch with the latest University developments.
You don’t need to let us know you have left a gift in your Will, but we would be delighted to have the opportunity to say thank you should you wish to let us know. Any information you give to us will be treated in complete confidence.
