How to Apply
To apply all candidates must complete and upload MVLS/EPSRC Recruitment Form (you will also find this within the application portal). This is the only form that will be used to shortlist candidates, therefore if not uploaded, candidates cannot be put forward for shortlisting.
The reason for this is to reduce the impact of unconscious bias in recruitment. We therefore ask that when completing this, please only provide the information requested. Information not relevant at this stage includes name, gender, ethnicity and/or nationality, names of Institutions where you attended or trained.
To ensure that the Recruitment Form can be matched with your application, please ensure that you add your Application number (generated when you start an online application) to the Recruitment form and SCREEN SHOT the last page of the form, you will need to to upload the last page of the form to the supporting documents section, on the admissions portal.

- Academic transcript
- Degree Certificiates
- Personal statement (this should provide any other required information in support of the application, such as evidence of previous academic or professional experience that qualifies you for the programme (projects; placements; voluntary work etc). You should state the reasons why you selected this programme and what benefit you hope to achieve through successful completion of the programme. The statement should include information about lab techniques you have used and research projects in which you have been involved. The statement should not be longer than one A4 page)
- Passport (a scan of passport page),
- Details of referee 1 ((should be from an academic who has a knowledge of your academic ability from your most recent study/programme),
- Details of referee 2 (should be from an academic who has a knowledge of your academic ability)
Please note, that we are unable to accept any International Applicants in the 2025/26 intake.
Please note, you must apply to a specific project and it is advised that you contact the primary supervisor prior to making your application. Please ensure that you include details of the project that you are applying to at the supervisor and project title section. The project title should be included in the Research Proposal section of the application.
Note: you are not required to upload a research proposal for this programme, despite the online application stating this.
