About our research
Our research group focuses on improving the outcomes of patients with bowel cancer, both in the short-term and over a longer period.
We study how inflammation, both in the body and around the tumour, affects how the cancer progresses. By understanding these relationships, we aim to incorporate this knowledge into everyday cancer treatment.
Our goal is to create new, personalised treatment strategies for bowel cancer, tailoring care to each patient.
Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)
Patients and the public who are based in Scotland, who have gone through bowel screening or bowel cancer, are invited to join our Glasgow Colorectal Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Group.

Public Engagement (PE)
We held our first public engagement activity "Polyp Patrol" as part of Explorathon 2024. Since then, we have:
- Been part of Glasgow Science Festival
- Visited local primary schools for British Science Week
- Visited local Girlguiding units for International Day of Women and Girls in Science
- Teamed up with Glasgow Science Centre
- Teamed up with RSE Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) STEM Seedlings programme.
