We are celebrating 575 years since our founding in 1451

As we celebrate 575 years of the University, find out about some of our anniversary events and how you can share your memories of Glasgow.
Providing knowledge and fairer access to education has been central since our founding decree. The Papal Bull issued by Pope Nicholas V in 1451, authorised the establishment of the University of Glasgow. Today, our global community of students, staff, alumni and partners spans continents and generations, united by this enduring commitment and shared vision.
You can find out more about our history, how we are marking this milestone and bringing our University community together on our Explore 575 webpage.
If you live near to campus you might be interested in the Glasgow Makes People Exhibition in the Library about how the student experience has changed, or join Hunterian curator Joseph Sharples on 3 June for a Heritage Talk in conjunction with WestFest to explore the fascinating story of the workers who built the University’s iconic Gilbert Scott building.
As part of our celebrations, we also want to hear your UofG story. Perhaps it was the day you met a lifelong friend or partner, discovered your passion for a subject, or became part of a club or society that shaped your time here. Or maybe it’s a memory from your time at the University of Glasgow that you still look back on fondly today. Share your story by email to uofg575@gla.systa-s.com
